A promotion can bring people to your website, but the page still has to help them make a decision. Before sending traffic, walk through the same route a new reader will follow. This is a campaign readiness check, rather than a reason to redesign everything.
Choose the page the campaign needs
An ad about one book should lead to a page where that book is easy to find. A podcast appearance might need a page introducing the author, the featured book and a useful next step. Avoid sending every visitor to a homepage that makes them search for the promised information.
Check the promise above the first scroll
Show the title, cover and a clear description of who the book is for. Use language that matches the promotion. If the campaign offers a sample, make the sample easy to access. If it invites a purchase, give readers a clearly labelled retailer link.
Follow every link on a phone
Test the menu, book links, sample downloads and contact route at a narrow screen width. Check that text is readable, buttons are easy to tap, and overlays do not cover the heading or next step. Confirm the retailer link opens the intended book and edition.
Test the forms, not just their appearance
Submit a test enquiry or signup through the normal route. Check that it reaches the expected inbox or mailing list and that any promised response or download arrives. Ask only for information needed for that action. Explain what someone is signing up to receive.
Set a simple measurement plan
Decide whether the page is intended to produce retailer clicks, email signups or enquiries. Record a starting point and review the same measures after promotion. Keep these actions separate from confirmed book sales. A successful form submission tells you the form works; it does not establish that the whole campaign will perform.
Before launch, ask someone unfamiliar with the page to complete the intended task without instructions. Their hesitation can reveal confusing wording or a missing link.
For help improving that route, see author website support or the website conversion review.
